The closing conference of the "Promoting the Role of Civil Society in Gender-Sensitive Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals" project took place today, bringing together high officials from the government, the EU, UNDP and CSO representatives.

This 27-month project funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP in 37 regions of Azerbaijan, helped 662 women in Azerbaijan gain entrepreneurial skills and provided seed funding to 129 women to start their own business.

In addition, it helped provide legal aid to 1200 women across the country and organized a series of awareness raising sessions on early marriage attended by 650 young girls.

A total of 9 civil society organizations received trainings and grants with which they successfully implemented a series of initiatives in the areas of women entrepreneurship, legal aid for victims of domestic violence, provision of clean water and sanitation and making cities more inclusive for people with disabilities - all of which have contributed towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
